Reading: Please continue logging in minutes and title of books being read for homework.
Spelling City : Take advantage of SpellingCity.com! Our next spelling test will be on Friday. Your child’s first graded spelling tests will go home this week too. You will notice that we do not test on every single word. Rather, we choose a sampling of about half from the sort. Students who show mastery of the pattern will move on to the next sort, while those whose tests indicate that extra practice is needed will be given a more developmentally appropriate sort.
A Look at our Academic Week:
Reading: We continue adding to our reading strategies. We have been working on Make a picture or mental image and Check for understanding. Our strategy this week is Cross Checking.

Our read aloud, Amber Brown is Not a Crayon, is coming to an end. We have been working hard on “Make a picture or mental image” as I read the chapter book.
Writing: We will focus on “unfreezing” our stories.
EM (EVERYDAY MATH): We begin Unit 2 this week. Please look in your child’s work folder tomorrow for a math newsletter. We will work on number grid puzzles, addition word problems, “easy addition facts” and double facts.
Religion: Jesus show Us How to Love God Our Father and Others
Science: We will complete our sound unit this week. We will begin learning about magnets.
Social Studies: Unit 1 We Belong To Many Groups: Learning Together at School
DAYS TO REMEMBER:
Tuesday and Thursday: P.E.
Wednesday: Library Books due & picture day (students come in uniform)
Friday: Primary Centers
