Third grade families,

A busy week up ahead!

A few important dates:

  • Our Thanksgiving donut pre-sale has begun. Donuts are $2 each and students are only limited to purchasing one. The last day to order a donut will be on 11/13. Proceeds will go to Adopt-A-Family.
  • Thursday, 11/8: is a PATRIOTIC (red, white & blue) free ($1) dress day in honor of our flag retirement ceremony in the afternoon.
  • Friday, 11/9 is a half day Friday!
  • Monday, 11/12: VETERAN’S DAY—NO SCHOOL!

Homework this week:

  • 100 minutes of reading/week
  • fluency
  • IXL math: BB.3, BB.4, C.4

**C.4: may be a tricky one.  Please remind your children to work these out on paper or a whiteboard. This IXL skill requires us to really slow down and pay close attention to the work we are doing!**

Sneak peek to our week:

Math: We have begun Unit 3 on measurement! This week we will continue practicing measuring to the nearest ½ in and ¼ in.  We will work on estimating length as well.

Reading: Unit 2 on Non-fiction reading is underway! This week we will be working on the work we do BEFORE reading a non-fiction book.  Non-fiction books are full of a ton of facts and information, and by revving up our minds and getting organized, we will get the most out of our non-fiction books. We then will jump into looking for structure within our texts by organizing new information.

Writing: This week in writing we will work a lot on revising our endings, and using an editing checklist that reminds writer’s of things to look back and check for before publishing a piece of writing.

Spelling: Spelling words may be found in your child’s planner. Spelling tests will be this Friday. As a reminder, a great way to study spelling words is by practicing spelling words with a similar pattern to the words listed in the planners!

Religion: This week we wrap up Chapter 3: We are God’s Holy People.  We will be taking our religion quiz on Wednesday.

Science: This week we will discuss the ways habitats change.  These changes in the environment are caused by living and non-living factors. Some of these changes are helpful, and others may be harmful.

Have a wonderful rest of the week,

Miss Poindexter
