Sneak Peek to our Academic Week
math: This week we continue on with reviewing skills from 2nd grade. The first few weeks of school, as we get settled are a lot of review from the previous year to make sure we get the foundation skills down! This week we will be working with adding and subtracting 2 digit numbers, with and without re-grouping. We are tidying up on our re-grouping skills. This week we will also continue to re-fresh on money and time.
reading: This week in reading we work on making our reading life the best in can be. In order to do so, we are working on finding good fit books, finding good reading spots, and working to begin our independent reading stamina!
writing: For our personal narratives, we continue to practice writing strategies when picking a topic to write about. When writing personal narratives and thinking about a writing topic, we want to list important people in our lives, think of the moments shared with them, pick a moment and begin getting the story on paper!
word work: We will not begin word work this week. We are continuing to assess in order to form our spelling groups.
religion: This week we discuss what is means to be holy by describing the ways that we can know, love, and serve God. We will read about the examples of Holiness that Saint Francis & Saint Clare left for us. We will have our first religion quiz scheduled for this Friday.
social studies: Happy Constitution Day! Our 8th grade friends will travel to our classrooms and teach us about the importance of the U.S. Constitution.
science: This week is all about plant life cycles! We will discover that while there is great diversity among flowering plants, they all share similar life cycles. They all start from seeds, grow, and eventually reproduce through the process of pollination!
Have a wonderful week!
Blessings,
Miss Poindexter
