Sneak peek to our academic week:

Math:  This week we wrap up unit 2! We continue to practice different methods and approaches to solving addition problems with 3-digit numbers and 3 different addends! We have practiced the standard way of addition, as well as the partial-sums method.  This week we will also begin practicing subtraction with 3-digit numbers. Again, we will practice the standard way of re-grouping, but also the counting up method.  As we mention in class, these are different tricks to add to our bag of math strategies; when doing homework, your child may use whichever method they are most comfortable with! Our next math test is scheduled for next Tuesday.

Reading: This week in reading we will be digging deeper into our texts, thinking critically and asking questions as we read. When reading, it is important for students to be able to gain a deeper knowledge of the text they are reading, much deeper than just the story line, and this week we will practice reading skills to help us do just that!

Writing: We will continue with our second piece of narrative writing, really focusing on reliving moments we are writing about so that we too can make our readers hear, feel, and see.

Spelling: Spelling words can be found in your child’s planner.  Our spelling tests will be this Friday.

Religion: In religion, we continue with working on memorizing the St. Michael of the Archangel prayer.  We will also talk a lot about our God given talents, working together to help other classmates be aware of their own talents! We will be writing a nice note to a classmate, reminding them of a God given talent they have!

Science: This week in science we will be conducting a spooky Halloween experiment!

Social studies: This week in social studies we continue our lesson on landforms, working in our interactive notebooks.

Have a wonderful week,

Miss Poindexter
