Third Grade families,
Happy Monday!
We enjoyed having many families on campus for our Fall Showcase and Saints Parade! Our intermediate grades (3, 4, and 5) showcased a Dia De Los Muertos and “Anything but a Pumpkin!” collaboration. Learning about so many saints through our K-2 and 8th-grade friends was nice!

Sneak Peek To Our Academic Week
math: This week, we have a mix of review and new math content. Throughout the week, we will be partaking in several math assessments to ensure mastery! Now that the trimester is coming to an end, we like to assess and see where each student lies. Among the assessments, we also continue with our math unit on measurement. We will continue to work with standard linear measures and practice measuring to the nearest 1/2 and 1/4 inch.
reading: In our class read-aloud, The Wild Robot, we continue to practice our prediction and comprehension skills. Each group works through a specific novel in our small, guided reading groups. During this small group time this week, we are working on finding text evidence to support our thinking.
writing: We continue to work on adding detail to our personal narrative. As we reach the end of our unit, we will begin working on editing skills. This week we will focus on making sure our paragraphs are flowing well with the use of transitions.
religion: We will learn a new prayer: St. Michael the Archangel. Before working to memorize it, we will take time understanding the meaning of this prayer.
We will be attending 8:30 am mass this Friday. Please join us if your schedule allows!
word work: We continue on with Words Their Way! This is a differentiated spelling program that allows our students to learn phonics, vocabulary, and spelling. It’s a hands-on approach to use word study to help us become better spellers. New spelling words will be written in your child’s planner every Monday.
STEM: (S)cience (T)echnology (E)ngineering (M)ath: In our intermediate centers this week, we will complete a STEM escape room: Escaping on the Mayflower! We will use science, technology, engineering, and math to save a turkey from being Thanksgiving dinner. We will work to assist the turkey’s escape on the Mayflower!
science: How does the force of friction affect motion? We will test out high and low levels of friction and watch on how it affects motion.
Have a wonderful week!
Blessings,
Miss Poindexter
