math: This week we are working on characteristics of 3D shapes, working to identify their bases, faces, edges, and vertices. Midweek we will review Ch. 6, as our unit math test is scheduled for this Thursday.

reading: We continue to work through the reading elements of our class read-aloud, Charlotte’s Web. We will work on looking at moments and feelings from the point-of-view of Wilbur.

Throughout the week, we continue to meet in our small, differentiated guided reading groups where each group works on specific, non-fiction reading skills.

writing: Now that we have finalized our Table of Contents, we will work on researching specific topics to become experts before drafting. When note-taking and researching, we will work on paraphrasing to ensure we are taking notes and jotting down ideas in our own words.

religion: Our Seminarian, Jessie, will begin popping into our class each Monday to teach us religion. Yesterday was his first day with us! He spent time discussing his vocation with us. The remaining of our week will be filled with discussion centered on the Parts of the Mass.

We will be attending 8:30 am mass this Friday. Please join us if your schedule allows!

word work: We continue with Words Their Way! This differentiated spelling program allows our students to learn phonics, vocabulary, and spelling. It’s a hands-on approach to use word study to help us become better spellers. New spelling words will be written in your child’s planner every Monday.

cursive: This week, we will learn the lowercase j.

social studies: We continue to work in our research groups as we study California Native American Tribes! Each group is assigned a specific CA tribe where they work together to form their research and ideas into a collaborative paper and diorama project.

Have a great week!

Blessings,
Miss Poindexter
