Sneak peek to our week…

Math: This week we continue on with Chapter 1 content. Chapter 1 is entirely a review of skills from second grade. We will continue reviewing place value, skip counting, writing money amounts, as well as counting and comparing them. These are very important foundational skills that will be used continuously throughout third grade.

Reading: This week we continue on with checking for comprehension as we read parts of our books.  As readers, it is important for us to make sense of a story–to figure out which characters are doing what and why. A bit of ideas on using context clues as we read will be explored, while asking ourselves,  “What mind-work is my book signaling me to do?”

Writing: We continue with narrative writing! This week, we will construct several possible “leads” to our narrative “books.” We will learn and practice different possible ways that we can begin our narrative writing in order to be good storytellers. We want to have good beginnings so that our readers are hooked and will want to read more!

Religion: In religion, we will begin reflecting on our SLEs. This week, we will spend some time discussing what it means to be a Catholic.  Later in the week, we will dive into the seven sacraments: what they all are, why we do them, and which sacraments we have received thus far! We will create our own sacraments booklets!

Word Work: We have officially begun our differentiated word work groups and rotations! Spelling words will be found in your child’s planner. Please plan for a spelling test this Friday.

Grammar: This week we begin on learning about commas and how we them in a series.

Science: We continue exploring the biomes of our world and living thing’s adaptations to those biomes. This week we will wrap up Chapter 1 and (hopefully) have a science lab next week!

Another busy week!

Thank you to all,

Miss Poindexter
