I hope you enjoyed your long Labor Day weekend! Although it is a short week, we have a lot planned.

A few important dates for this week:

  • Say cheese…Wednesday, 9/5 is picture day! Picture forms were sent home in homework folders last week. As a reminder, make sure to take a look at them, fill out the form and send back to school, or you can order online! 🙂
  • Friday, 9/7 is Grandparents (and other special friends) Day! Come join us in mass at 8:30 AM, our students will meet their guests in church to enjoy a nice mass. Following the mass, a reception in the Biedermann Hall will be held for our grandparents and friends! At approximately 10:15, our grandparents/special friends are welcome to visit our classroom until 11:40AM. It will be a ver special and fun-filled morning. 🙂
  • Friday, 9/7 is also a half-day! Dismissal will be at 12:00.

Homework:

Homework packets will be sent home Tuesday afternoon with our NEW fluency passages and reading logs!

  • 100 minutes/week, with logs filled out
  • fluency
  • Math IXL: B.2, U.6, V.1
(some of these skills are review from last week, and some are skills we will cover this week. note: for V.1, the skill uses the term “probable.” Probable is not the exact term that we use in class, so please remind your children that “probable” is referring to something that “might happen, but we are not sure about.”

Sneak peek of our week…

Math: This week we will cover and learn a lot about probability and place value. Our place value practice will set a solid foundation for decimals.

Reading: This week in Reader’s Workshop we will establish reading partners. Along with that, we will talk a lot about textual clues and reading comprehension, coming up with strategies that we can use to help us become self sustained readers!

Writing: We continue on with narrative writing. This week we will also establish writing partners. We will talk about editing our writing as we go, and begin rehearsing for writing!

Word Work: Due to the short week, we will only use a practice sort this week. The words in your child’s planner will be used for in-class use only. No spelling test this Friday.

Religion: We will wrap up our Chapter 1, talking about the people in our lives who have taught us and brought us closer to God. We will be celebrating Mary’s birthday with a fun craft.

Science: We continue with Adaptations. This week in our interactive notebooks, we will learn about the different biomes and the adaptations that living things have in those given environments.

We are hard at work in third grade!

Thank you all for your continued support.

Have a great week,

Miss Poindexter
