Third Grade Families,

A few announcements…

Tomorrow, May 3rd, we will be on our way to the Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History! Please have students wear jeans and a SHS polo. Also, don’t forget a sack lunch with names written on them!

Friday, May 5th is a half-day.

On the evening of Wednesday, May 10th intermediate grades will have their music program. Please make sure your child is practicing their parts & songs! If your child is not able to attend the program, please let me know via email.

Here’s a peek into our week…

Math: This week we continue on with Unit 9, Multiplication & Division. We will be learning more about the partial-product algorithm, multiplying one digit number by 2 and 3-digit numbers, and factors of a whole number.

 Reading: In Reader’s Workshop we continue to explore our animals, all while learning how to pin-point text structures and using them to help us take effective notes.

note: students should be reading 100+ minutes a week, as well as recording it in their reading log.

Word Work: Spelling words can be found in your child’s planner. Our next spelling test is scheduled for next Monday.

Writer’s Workshop: We are continuing with persuasive writing, talking about the importance of editing our writing as we go and setting goals and expectations for ourselves while we write.

Grammar: We continue our unit on Adverbs.

Science: Our unit of The Solar System continues!

Social Studies: We will begin learning about the Local Government in California.

Religion:  This week, we continue on with Ch. 11, Jesus Is Our Light.
