  • 20-30 minutes of reading, 5 times a week – 5 Reading Responses (Tuesday-Tuesday)
    • This week for their journal responses, students can read nonfiction or fiction books. Please have them use the menus as their guide.

Our Week:

  • Math: Welcome to the world of fractions! Students will review what they have learned about fractions in previous years and add to that knowledge. We will discuss how fractions are used outside of the classroom!
  • Reading: We continue our reading of The Island of the Blue Dolphins. Students make connections to our main character, Karana.
  • Writing: We celebrated the end of our Opinion Writing unit with some Oreos! We used the acronym OREO to help us remember that when we write opinion pieces, we state our Opinion, provide Reasons, apply Evidence/Examples, and then restate our Opinion. (Hence, the OREO!) This week, we will move into Informative writing.
  • Religion: As a school, we continue to participate in the Stations of the Cross weekly. In class, we are discussing the Sabbath and what it means to keep the Lord’s Day holy.
  • Science: Students show what they have learned about sound by creating “Sound Wave Watchers” from recycled materials.
  • Social Studies: This week, we will start to learn about what happened after the mission era in California.

Let’s have a great week!
Ms. Schmaeling
