Dear 4th Grade Families,

Here we are in the 2nd Trimester! I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving!

Here’s an update of what we are currently learning in class! Also, don’t forget to check the end of this post for the latest episode of our podcast!

  • Tuesday, November 28: Toppers Pizza Place school fundraiser from 3:30-9:00p (Ventura Main Street location)
  • Friday, December 1: 12pm Dismissal
  • Tuesday, December 5: 1st Trimester Report Cards are delivered
  • Tuesdays and Thursdays: PE! Please have students wear appropriate shoes and their PE uniforms.
  • Tuesdays: Library Day! Our class will visit the library every Tuesday afternoon to “check out” and read books. Students are able to take 2 books/week and can return and re-check out new books each week.
  • Math: In math, we focus on factors and multiples. Students use this information to then categorize numbers as either prime or composite. Soon, we move into our study of decimals.
  • Reading: Nonfiction text features and structures
  • Writing: Opinion! Students will begin learning what an opinion piece should look like and how to get started writing one of their own.
  • Grammar: Review continued! As we’ve had a break, we continue to review the grammar skills we have learned so far.
  • Religion: We Are Called to Follow Jesus – We learn about how we can pray, sacrifice, and help.
  • Science: Could a volcano pop up where we live?
  • Social Studies: European explorers of California
  • Reading Response Journal: around 20-30 minutes of reading, 5 times a week – 5 Reading Responses (Tuesday-Tuesday)
    • Nonfiction: For homework, students will read and respond according to the menu for nonfiction texts.
      • Students are still welcome to read fiction, but the response journal will be focused on nonfiction.
  • IXL: (Students do not need to reach 100%. Please encourage your students to do their best, but 100% is not required)
    • Please note that there is no # attached to these skills, rather they will be under the recommended or starred section of IXL
      • 4th Grade Math – Estimate sums: word problemsClick to view skill analysis report.
      • 4th Grade Math – Add two numbers

Let’s have a great week,
