Dear 4th Grade Families,
Here’s an update of what we are currently learning in class! Also, don’t forget to check the end of this post for the latest episode of our podcast!

Our Learning:
- Math: This week, we move into multi-digit multiplication! Students are learning a new strategy for multi-digit multiplication, the Partial Products method. This method helps break down the problem into easier to solve bits.
- Reading: Reading groups start back up this week! We also continue reading The Island of the Blue Dolphins and build up our vocabulary related to the novel.
- Writing: Opinion — Students are working on writing an interesting lead and introduction that grabs the reader and doesn’t bombard them with reasons right away.
- Grammar: Synonyms and Antonyms
- Religion: Virtus – Internet Safety lessons & Learning how to pray the Rosary with handmade rosaries gifted to our school!
- Science: The Birth of Rocks — What did our city look like 100 million years ago?
- Social Studies: While reading The Island of the Blue Dolphins, we make connections to the real life situations of CA natives interacting with CA explorers.
Homework: Due January 22
- Reading Homework: 5 reading responses
- Students are encouraged to read 20-30 minutes each night. After reading, students will select a question/task from their reading menu to answer in their journal. 5 responses are to be completed by next Tuesday. Students may read either fiction or non-fiction and choose a corresponding task.
