Dear 4th Grade Families,

Here’s an update of what we are currently learning in class! Also, don’t forget to check the end of this post for the latest episode of our podcast!

  • Tuesday, January 9: Family Envelopes go home
  • Wednesday, January 10: Art with Ms. Sofer
  • Friday, January 12: 12pm Dismissal
  • Friday, January 12: SHS Parent Group Fundraiser: Skating Plus 3:30-5:30pm
  • Monday, January 15: MLK Jr. Day (No School)
  • Math: This week, we wrap up our learning of decimals and measuring to the nearest millimeter and centimeter.
  • Reading: Our reading time this week is focused on close reading. We also continue reading The Island of the Blue Dolphins and build up our vocabulary related to the novel.
  • Writing: Opinion — Students start to draft their essays, making sure to have a strong opinion statement and reasons that support it.
  • Grammar: Homophones
  • Religion: Kindness Helps People in Need
  • Science: The Birth of Rocks — Will a mountain last forever?
  • Social Studies: Students learn about Martin Luther King Jr. and Harriet Tubman.
  • Reading Homework: 5 reading responses
    • Students are encouraged to read 20-30 minutes each night. After reading, students will select a question/task from their reading menu to answer in their journal. 5 responses are to be completed by next Tuesday. Students may read either fiction or non-fiction and choose a corresponding task.
