Dear 4th Grade Families,
Happy Halloween! We enjoyed a day loaded with pumpkin and spooky activities.
Here’s an update of what we are currently learning in class! Also, don’t forget to check the end of this post for the latest episode of our podcast!
Important Dates and Reminders:
- Wednesday, November 1: All Saints Day – School Mass at 8:30am
- Friday, November 3: 12pm Dismissal
- Tuesdays and Thursdays: PE! Please have students wear appropriate shoes and their PE uniforms.
- Tuesdays: Library Day! Our class will visit the library every Tuesday afternoon to “check out” and read books. Students are able to take 2 books/week and can return and re-check out new books each week. ***This week we will go to the library on Wednesday as Tuesday is filled with other activities***
Our Learning:
- Math: This week, we practice data and measurement with pumpkins. We also will practice elapsed-time problems. All the while, we review our multiplication and division facts to build our fluency.
- Reading: We continue reading the Tiger Rising and explore the patterns we have observed within our characters. As a class, we analyze these habits our characters have and what it means for them when they change in the story.
- Writing: Personal Narratives – Students are wrapping up their publishing and starting new stories!
- Grammar: Prepositions! We review more this week on identifying the differences between prepositions and adverbs in a sentence.
- Religion: We write a letter to Pope Francis and study the process of becoming a saint as Wednesday is All Saints Day!
- Science: Human Body Machine Test
- Social Studies: Pre-Columbian Settlements and People: What was life like for native Californians before other settlers arrived?
Homework: DUE NOVEMBER 7
- Reading Response Journal: around 20-30 minutes of reading, 5 times a week – 5 Reading Responses (Tuesday-Tuesday)
- This week for their journal responses, students will read fiction books. Please have them use the menus as their guide. As students complete reading responses, have them color or cross out the activity chose.
- IXL: (Students do not need to reach 100%. Please encourage your students to do their best, but 100% is not required)
- 4th Grade Math F.3: Multiplication facts to 12
- 4th Grade Math B.1: Compare numbers up to one million
Let’s have a great week,
Ms. Schmaeling
