Dear 4th Grade Families,
I hope you’ve been staying cool! Here’s an update of what we are currently learning in class!
Important Dates:
- Friday, October 13: Free Dress (with donation for Adopt-a-Family) and 2pm Dismissal
Our Learning:
- Math: Multi-digit Addition and Subtraction Strategies
- Reading: This week as a class, we are focusing on making Text-to-Self connections. As we read The Tiger Rising, we build our understanding of our characters, Rob and Sistine, by connecting our lives and experiences to theirs.
- Writing: Personal Narratives – Show, Don’t Tell! This week, we continue to revise our masterpieces and add in sensory details to our work.
- Grammar: Subject-Verb Agreement – We’ll talk about what singular and plural mean for our subjects and verbs!
- Religion: The Parts of the Mass — This week, we focus on the Liturgy of the Word and the Liturgy of the Eucharist. This Friday at 8:30am, we’ll be going to Mass for the first time this year! Please join us if your schedule allows.
- Science: The Human Brain – How does your brain control your body?
- Social Studies: Tulare Lake Case Study – This week, we learn about the Tulare Lake and how it once was a major geographical point in CA. We learn of the effects of its disappearance for California Native Peoples and farmers of the area.
Homework: DUE OCTOBER 17
- Reading Response Journal: around 20-30 minutes of reading, 5 times a week – 5 Reading Responses (Tuesday-Tuesday)
- This week for their journal responses, students will read fiction books. Please have them use the menus as their guide. As students complete reading responses, have them color or cross out the activity chose.
- IXL:
- 4th Grade Math C.1: Rounding: up to hundred thousands place
- 3rd Grade Math H.4: Subtract numbers up to three digits
