Dear 4th Grade Families,

I apologize for the late post! This week, we’ve had the pleasure of diving into reading with the help of our 8th grade friends. Each morning, the 8th grade students have come in to lead our class in an activity for Read Across America week.

Here’s an update of what we are currently learning in class! Don’t forget to check out our most recent episode of the 4th Grade Pod”class” linked below.

Our Learning:

  • Math: This week, we spend time reviewing skills we’ve practiced this trimester. We continue daily with practice of our multiplication and division skills.
  • Reading: Our reading focus is on Island of the Blue Dolphins this week. Students conducted some research on sea otters and are writing articles about how they take care of their young. This is based off of the new animal characters we have met in our book!
  • Writing: Students continue to work on their final drafts of their essays.
  • Religion: This week students complete a Stations of the Cross booklet which can be used as a tool for some Lenten reflection. We also continue our learning of worship.
  • Science: Sound! Students take on creating 2 secret codes with a partner: one that is visual and one that is auditory. Will they be able to crack the code?
  • Social Studies: Students continue their CA Mission projects.

Homework: Due Tuesday, March 12

  • Reading Homework: 5 reading responses
    • Students are encouraged to read 20-30 minutes each night. After reading, students will select a question/task from their reading menu to answer in their journal. 5 responses are to be completed by next Tuesday. Students may read either fiction or non-fiction and choose a corresponding task.
