I hope that everyone enjoyed the long Memorial Day weekend! We will have a FREE free dress on Friday, celebrating a successful Jogathon. Friday is a half-day, and it is also Move-Up day, when students will learn about the year ahead in fifth grade! Next Monday afternoon, school families will be involved in Field Day; please see the school bulletin for details about the popsicle colors assigned to each family. Students will be in free dress, sporting the colors of their particular families.

THE WEEK AHEAD:

HOMEWORK: Students will be doing the following ixL skills this week: Math Q 1 and Q 2, and Language M 6. We will be doing Fluency #35, and students should be reading for 20-30 minutes per night. The reading log, ixL skills and fluency homework will be due next Monday.

DAILY WORK

Religion: We end our year by learning about the Beatitudes.

Math: We continue working on a better understanding of fractions.

Reading Workshop: We will continue reading historical fiction, and will also be practicing parts in three short Reader’s Theater selections.

Writing Workshop: Students are writing final drafts of their informational books; these are to be finished by Friday.

Spelling: We continue work on Unit 35; we are writing the words in ABC order; the test will be on Thursday.

Vocabulary: We continue work on Unit 16. We are writing sentences using the 12 words; the test will be on Friday.

Grammar: We continue working with commonly misused and/or misspelled words.

Science: We continue our study of electricity; this week we will use the energy from batteries to power small motorized fans.

Social Studies: We conclude our study of the Gold Rush and then we will review what we have learned this year. Next Monday we will have a test on the main 4th grade standards covered this year.
