5th Grade Academics

RELIGION

We are still celebrating the Easter season but are studying reconciliation and the anointing of the sick. Our quiz will be today.

MATH

We’ve been working on fractions, decimals, and percents and have turned all that into a circle graph using our geometry templates and the percent circle. We had our Unit 5 test yesterday.

SCIENCE

This week we turned our attention to the Earth as we celebrated Earth Day. We went on an Earth Day Scavenger Hunt and have studied the Earth’s spheres and more importantly…how the spheres interact with each other. We are ready to test tomorrow.

ELA

Reading: We are a little over halfway through Bud, Not Buddy. We will focus on character analysis, figurative language, context clues, and comprehension questions for each chapter.

Our focus for grammar will continue to be suffixes along with correct punctuation marks.

Our writing focus continues to be persuasive, with a focus on pathos, logos, and charged words.

Word Work:  New sorts for all. All students are working with Latin roots and Greek words. Students are required to know the meaning of the Latin or Greek part/word. They have been playing games to help them review and/or learn their sort.

Social Studies

We are simultaneously working on two things: the American Revolution and making a slide for a state report on Google Slides. We are learning about the events that led up to the American Revolution. Last week, we learned about the French and Indian War. This week, we learn about the Proclamation of 1763.
