Dear Kindergarten Families,
A special request: Seventh grade students are asking for used clothing for orphaned children in the Dominican Republic. Please send in clothes items for children 4 to 18 years old – tomorrow and Wednesday. You will see containers to drop off items in the parking lot car line.
The Rain Forest was our spotlight program this morning. Another interesting and informative outreach program from the City of Ventura. It was great and has given us a better understanding of plants and animals in this tropical area.
**Friday we are having our monthly School-wide Centers with a 12:00 dismissal. I could use another pair of hands Friday from 10:00 to 12:00.
Academics:
Religion- continuing with our focus on Lent – getting ready for Palm Sunday! Stories from the Children’s Bible are read once or twice weekly. Stations of the Cross are on Thursday this week at 2:00. Please join us if you schedule permits.
ELA – A new Theme begins, this week review of beginning letter/sounds t, k, n. Short vowel /o/ blending and segmenting CVC words. Sight word focus ‘said’; building words with short vowels /i/ and /o/; and using correct punctuation when writing sentences. Reading focus and strategies-monitor/clarify and comprehension – realism and fantasy.
Speech Contest!! Help your child find a poem to memorize for our speech contest, April 27. All students must find a published poem 4 to 12 lines to recite in class, if your child would like to compete in the finals -I will be choosing 5 students. Please bring in a copy of the poem. After Easter Vacation, we will be practicing in class everyday after lunch (more information will be coming soon).
EM – surveying and graphing results; solid and plane shapes; review counting by 5s and starting to count by 2s and place value ones, tens and hundreds.
