Dearest Third Grade Families,
We continue to do our very best every day. Between the Palmisano Writing Contest, preparations for the upcoming School Fair, weekly Stations of the Cross, various class projects and our regular studies, we are busy bees!
As a reminder, Wednesday is a free dress day. Participating students should bring $1 (or more). All funds collected will go directly to the St.Vincent de Paul Society.
Math: This week, we continue with our study of measuring angles (now comparing our angles to the hands on a clock) after which the students will learn all about symmetry. Later in the week we will bring math, science and art together in a project where we make symmetrical space aliens!
IXL Homework:
CC.10 Symmetry
CC.9 Identify congruent shapes
Reading:
Homework: fluency + 100 minutes (minimum) read & logged.
Writing: The students are polishing up their submissions for the Palmisano Writing Contest. We are writing all about a moment when we were of service to our community, whether that be home, school, family or otherwise. Everyone did an amazing job last week “rehearsing” (drafting) their stories, first aloud “in the air” and then on paper. Now we will move on to isolating the heart of our stories and stretching those out through dialog, detail and twin sentences.
Word Work: This week’s words can be found in your child’s planner. Our spelling test is scheduled for Friday.
Grammar: The class will be finishing up with Unit 2: Nouns with a study of possessive nouns. This is oftentimes a tricky area for students as they don’t always have a firm understanding of where to place the apostrophe: before or after the s. I would encourage all to take a look at the Lesson 14 activities on the grammar workshop website for a little extra practice. Click here for a link.
Science: This week we continue with our School Fair projects: Sandwich Science! The students are learning all about germs and the importance of hand washing. We can’t wait for all to see our presentation on the evening of March 14th.
Religion: We will wrap up Chapter 15: Jesus Suffered and Died for Us as we continue to observe Lent.
Have a great week!
Ms. Espinosa
