Third grade families,
We are in the Christmas spirit! This week we will be completing some fun Christmas themed math and ELA assignments! Cooler weather has arrived, please make sure to send your children to school with sweaters and jackets, with their names clearly marked. We have a little over a week left before we head out for Christmas break. This week and part of next, we will work to wrap up as many units as we can, so we can start fresh once we return from our Christmas break!
Important dates:
- Our SHS Girl Scouts are still collecting gently worn jackets to donate to local shelters. If you come across some that you would like to donate, please bring them in by December 13th.
- Our Food Drive has begun! Paper bags were sent home last week. If you can, please return the bag with any non-perishable foods.
- Tomorrow, December 12th is a free dress day. Please bring in $1 to donate to St. Vincent de Paul.
- This Thursday we will be having an evacuation drill, keep a look out for your email notifying you of the start and end of our drill.
- This Friday is a full-day.

- 100 minutes reading/week & logged
- IXL Math: FF.5, FF.8 & P.2
**Please encourage your students to work on IXL assignments on paper. FF.5 may be a little tricky, but working it out on paper makes it much easier.
Sneak peek to our week:
Math: This week we will continue to practice finding the area and perimeter of shapes using fun Christmas themes! Although we have taken our unit test on this, I want to spend a little longer practicing these concepts, as area and perimeter are always a bit tricky when introduced! Upon our return from Christmas break, we will be stepping into our Unit 4 on multiplication.
Reading: This week with our non-fiction texts, we will talk and think about our texts, separating our perspectives on a topic from the perspective of the text we are reading. Sometimes, the author of a text may have an opinion that is different from the reader’s opinion. During our reader’s workshop time, we have separated into several differentiated book clubs, where smaller groups practice non-fiction reading skills with me!
Writing: This week during our writing time, we will begin organizing our informational books before we begin actually writing them. We will organize all we know about our writing topic and begin creating a table of contents for our book.
Grammar: Our Unit 6 grammar test got pushed back to this week.
Spelling: Spelling words can be found in your child’s planner. Spelling tests will be next Monday.
Religion: This week we will discuss the second week of Advent, dive into Chapter 11: “God Sent us Jesus”, and continuing to practice and memorize The Gloria prayer.
Social Studies: This week we will begin our Lesson 4 on California’s Regions.
