Hello Second Grade Families,
It was a pleasure getting to meet and chat with so many of our second grade parents last week. It takes a village!
This week is a wet one, and with that comes lots of time inside. We will do our best to take lots of stretch breaks and walks when the opportunities present themselves. In the mean time, we will continue our march forward through the second grade curriculum.
Math: This week, the students will continue with Unit 5: 3D and 2D shapes. We will spend some time exploring polygons, arrays and attributes while building our math vocabularies. So far, students should know: parallel lines, line segments, end points, quadrangles, and how to name a line segment.
For IXL Homework this week, please complete the following skills:
P.10 Add money up to $1 — word problems
P.12 Subtract money up to $1 — word problems
P.18 Least number of coins
Science & Writer’s Workshop: This week is all about writing our second lab report, this time focusing on conclusions. The students will learn that conclusions need to reflect what was originally asked while referring back to the hypothesis to explain what happened.
Word Work: Since this is a short week, our spelling test will take place on Monday! As a heads-up, we will do the same next week.
Reading: This week is all about talking the talk! We will begin the process of learning to speak with expertise on a topic before we make the shift from more general non-fiction reading to a focused reading across across a single topic.
Religion: We begin Chapter 15: Jesus Promised the Gift of Himself. Our focus will be largely centered on the Holy Eucharist .
Have a great week!
Ms. Espinosa
