Sneak Peek to our academic week:

Math: This week we officially wrap up Unit 5.  This week we will practice decimal place value to thousandths, by using our place-value booklets. We will also to continue to compare decimals. Prodigy is a fun math resource that we use in third grade! It is a great way to practice and reinforce math skills. Usernames and passwords can be found in your child’s planner. Our math test is scheduled for next Monday.

Reading: Character Studies! This week in Reader’s Workshop we begin our class re-aloud, Because of Winn-Dixie. This week we will get to know the main characters in our books by noticing how our characters talk and act. When you begin a new book, you are given a new friend! As we continue to read on, we will get to know our book characters in the same way we would get to know a new friend!

Writing: In our opinion-writing unit, we begin practicing persuasion. We will immerse in the genre of persuasive speech writing, learning how to create a flash-draft speech.

Religion: This weeks religion focus is on our God and how He is just and merciful. We will discuss the ways that God shows justice and mercy, recalling the Good Shepherd story, which shows God’s merciful love.

Spelling: Spelling words can be found in your child’s planner and spelling city.com. Spelling tests are scheduled for this Friday.

Grammar: This week we will learn about complete sentences and fragments. We will explore what fragments are and what sentences need to include in order for them to be complete.

Science: Lots of science fun! We will have a surprise lesson on SLIME! As we make our slime, we will explore what liquids and solids are, then determine what slime is considered as…a liquid, solid, or something else? Then, we will have our exciting RAYS Discovery Science program!

Have a blessed week,

Miss Poindexter
