First Grade Families,
February is here! We have a couple of fun days next week. Be sure to check out the end of the newsletter for a few reminders.
Thank you for sending your child ready to learn this week. I will continue sending reminders if they are missing anything. Don’t forget to send the phonics library books to school.
Homework:
REMINDER: Homework is due by Tuesday morning/evening. Please be sure to click the green checkmark to turn it in.
- Reading Log: Read 20 min. a day (at least 5 times a week)
- Practice new word sort. Go over word patterns with your child. (Test will be on Monday).
- Fluency (you should have started the third fluency)
- Math Packet: Students have had this packet in their binder since Dec. Please make sure they complete the packet and turn it in on Tuesday. If your child is a Zoomie, please turn in on Seesaw with Fluency. Roomies must turn in to me.
Sneak Peek To Our Academic Week
MATH: Reading a thermometer, skip counting, adding and subtracting 10 to a number (38-10, 47-10, 45+10)
READING: It continues being about learning good reading habits (sneak peek, check your sneak peek, and do something after you read). We have learned to reread to see more. We practiced in class so have them try it after they read a book.
We are learning to stop our bad habits such as the freeze, guessing the word, and mumbling the word. Students are learning to take words apart to figure out the words and checking the picture/text to see if it makes sense. Reading daily at home makes a difference.
WRITING: How To Books… we are revising, adding details, pictures, etc. Please make sure to take the time to listen to them read a HOW TO BOOK. If something is not clear, you can ask them the following: What did you mean when you wrote…? Can you show me what that looks like? I’m a little confused with …. can you help me understand? What does that mean?
We are also learning to think of other books we can write about…Think about what you have learned in school. Can you teach someone how to get on Zoom? Can you teach someone how to stretch like in P.E.? Can you teach them something you learned in math?
We will work on writing a conclusion this week and next week.
SPELLING/WORD SORT: Look in their planner for the spelling words. Spelling test on Tuesday. Have them say it and lay it for you.
Fun ways to practice words:
*I’m thinking of a word and it begins with… b and rhymes with tell. Answer: bell
*Use play dough to spell/wikki sticks
*Time them when they are reading their sort/Time them to see how fast they can say it and lay it.
RELIGION: We are completing chapters 13 and 14 this week. Jesus Shows God’s LOVE. 🙂
SOCIAL STUDIES: Things from long ago…
Science: Last week, we were weather watchers! Fun activity.
