Sneak Peek to our Academic Week

Word Work: Please review spelling patterns during the week.

Reading: We will be working on vowel pairs (ee, ea, ou, etc.). We will be working on comprehension. We are working on writing a retell, cause and effect, learning to make better predicitons by using picture cues, and learning to describe a characters traits.

Writing/Grammar:  Persuasive/Opinion Writing

We have a lot of opinions in first grade. We will begin writing our opinions about many topics this week. We began the unit by learning the difference between fact and opinion.

Math:  We are working with greater than and less than with addition problems. Example: 24+10 >25+2, 89+1=90 or 87<__ (student fill in the number). This is a hard concept but we will master this skill!

We are also learning to add two and three digit numbers without regrouping. 345+111 or 46+12. Kids are having fun because they feel like BIG kids doing these problems. We are also practicing with subtraction.

Religion: We have learned about Palm Sunday and we will learn about Holy Thursday. We took a trip to church to learn about the altar, ambo, and tabernacle.

Science: Why do the stars come out at night?
