First Grade Families-
Easter break is around the corner. As we await our break, we will be busy in first grade continuing our academics. We still have lots to learn!
Weekly Homework
Homework due EVERY Tuesday.
Fluency: Fluency
Reading Challenge: April Reading Challenge (Read 20 min. a day).
Math IXL: Math worksheets (addition and subtraction). Reminder: Begin addition and subtraction from the ones place NOT the tens place.
Sneak Peek to our Academic Week
Word Work: Please review spelling patterns during the week.
Reading: We continue working on vowel pairs (ee, ea, ou, etc.). We will be working on comprehension. We continue working on retelling, cause and effect, learning to make better predictions by using picture cues, and learning to describe a character’s traits.
Writing/Grammar: Persuasive/Opinion Writing
We have identified topics to write our opinion. The following are just a few: candy, sports, book, subject, game and much, much more. In the next week, we will focus on community and global issues that we can write about to help others.
Math: We continue working with greater than and less than with addition problems. Example: 24+10 >25+2, 89+1=90 or 87<__ (student fill in the number). We are getting better!
We are also learning to add two and three-digit numbers without regrouping. 345+111 or 46+12. Kids are having fun because they feel like BIG kids doing these problems.
Religion: We will have another visit to church on Thursday. We continue to learn about Jesus’ journey. We will attend Stations of the Cross on Wednesday at 2:15.
Science: We concluded our lesson on Monday: Why do the stars come out at night? We begin our new unit on Light, Sound, and Communication.
