Dear 4th Grade Families,
It’s almost Christmas Break! We are excited and cherishing our time together. 🙂
Here’s an update of what we are currently learning in class! Also, don’t forget to check the end of this post for the latest episode of our podcast!
Important Dates and Reminders:
- Friday, December 15:Â 12pm Dismissal, Donuts and Milk Distributed (from Presale which ended Tuesday 12/12), Nutcracker Performance!
- Monday, December 18 — Monday, January 1: Christmas Break!
- Tuesday, January 2: School Resumes, no PE
- Wednesday — Friday, January 3-5: Family Conferences, Dismissal at 11:30am
Our Learning:
- Math:Â Decimals! This week, students use their understanding of decimals to do some “holiday shopping” where they will add and subtract from their given balance.
- Reading: Nonfiction! How can we read nonfiction well? We focus this week on text structures. — We also read a few winter-themed books!
- Writing: Opinion — What makes a strong opinion essay? This week, we practice the foundational skills of an opinion essay within a winter theme.
- Grammar: Capitalization — This week, we sharpen our skills and take our quiz.
- Religion:Â We learn about each week’s focus in Lent. We write prayers about these things: hope, peace, joy, and love.
- Science: The Birth of Rocks — We continue our focus on volcanoes and expand our knowledge about different types of lava.
- Social Studies: This week, we wrap up our studies of the European Explorers who ventured to California. Next up in our learning, Missions and Mexican Rule!
Homework: no homework over the break! 🙂
- There is no homework assigned over the break. Please take time to enjoy each other’s company. Reading is encouraged, but no written work is needed.
