  • Math: Decimals! This week, students use their understanding of decimals to do some “holiday shopping” where they will add and subtract from their given balance.
  • Reading: Nonfiction! How can we read nonfiction well? We focus this week on text structures. — We also read a few winter-themed books!
  • Writing: Opinion — What makes a strong opinion essay? This week, we practice the foundational skills of an opinion essay within a winter theme.
  • Grammar: Capitalization — This week, we sharpen our skills and take our quiz.
  • Religion: We learn about each week’s focus in Lent. We write prayers about these things: hope, peace, joy, and love.
  • Science: The Birth of Rocks — We continue our focus on volcanoes and expand our knowledge about different types of lava.
  • Social Studies: This week, we wrap up our studies of the European Explorers who ventured to California. Next up in our learning, Missions and Mexican Rule!
  • There is no homework assigned over the break. Please take time to enjoy each other’s company. Reading is encouraged, but no written work is needed.

Let’s have a great week and we’ll see you in the new year!
