Dear Second Grade Families,

This week is First Holy Communion countdown. We will be practicing in the church everyday, hopefully, except Friday. If you have not already done so, please have a “dress rehearsal” at home with the special clothes.  Make sure your child can walk (flat and up and down stairs similar to altar steps), kneel, bow, stand, and sit comfortably.  Shoes, (flat for girls), should not be slippery on the bottoms; they should stay on the feet, tied securely, buckled, etc., and feel comfortable. There are to be no gloves or anything carried in the hand.  Veils, bows, wreaths, etc., for the girls need to be securely fastened with bobby pins. Girls’ dresses need to have sleeves.

Please remind your child about “fasting” before Mass; nothing to eat or drink, except water and not a lot, one hour before Mass. Also, make sure he/she uses the bathroom before we begin, and hands are clean, and there is no gum chewing in church.

Mass will begin at 10:00. Our group photo: 9:40 sharp, in church. We will not wait for latecomers, as we will need to get ready to line up as soon as the picture is taken. Individual picture order envelopes will go home soon.

Your child’s certificate will be in the May 8 Tuesday folder.

As previously mentioned, your child does not need a sponsor for this sacrament. This has not been a tradition here at Sacred Heart. The class will be sitting together and participating in all aspects of the Mass as well as receiving Communion. We will only be receiving the Body of Christ. If you would like your child to receive the Blood of Christ, this can be done when you attend mass together as a family (maybe the next day, Sunday). You can instruct your child and be sure he/she knows what wine tastes like.

Then, have a wonderful day celebrating this milestone with your child, family, and friends.

Our non-Catholic second graders and their families are invited to join their classmates on this special day. Please let us know if you are going to be there.

God bless you, Second Grade Teachers
And the rest of our week looks something like this…
