ACADEMICS

Reading: We are learning how to catch are own mistakes by checking our own reading to see if what we read makes sense. We are also learning that authors write with the intention of getting a specific response from their readers.

Phonics: We continue reviewing phonological awareness. Our focus this week is medial vowels teams: ai, ay, oa, ow, ee, and ea. We are practicing isolating the medial sounds and writing words using the vowel teams.

Spelling: Your child’s sort can be found in their planner and Homework Folder. New sorts are given on Monday and spelling tests for those sorts are the following Monday.

Math: In Unit 2, we are learning addition and subtraction facts. This week our focus is double facts (1+1, 2+2, 3+3, etc.), doubles plus 1, and doubles plus 2.

Writing: We continue working on our personal narratives. We are editing our work checking for capitalization, punctuation, and spelling. We are also rereading our writing to make sure what we wrote makes sense.

Social Studies: We are learning map skills using a simple letter-number grid system to locate features in a neighborhood and our classroom.
