During the first trimester our student body collects money in support of the Adopt-A-Family program, which distributes Christmas gifts to needy families in the city of Los Angeles. As part of this effort, we will enjoy our first Free Dress day this Wednesday. Cost is $1; please see the website for guidance on appropriate dress choices. Picture Day is coming up on Wednesday the 23rd; to make things more convenient, families can pay for their picture selections online. See the school website for further information.
What we are working on this week:
Religion: We continue learning how God speaks to us through the Church, in particular through the leaders of the Church: the Pope, bishops and priests. Those who did not do well on the quiz for chapter 2 will redo it tomorrow; they have a paper to study from. We will do the chapter 3 quiz on Wednesday; students will bring home the pages from their book tomorrow.
Math: Students should complete ixL Math skills P6, P9 and P30 by next Monday. We will have the Unit One test tomorrow (Tuesday). Everyone is bringing home their math folders, in which there is a packet of diagrams to study.
Spelling: We begin our study of Unit 4 words, “long and short o” words. Students are to be working on the unit pages in their Spelling books, and these pages are to be done by Friday. The test will be on Friday.
Grammar: We are learning about compound sentences.
Writing Workshop: We are working on developing realistic characters in preparation for writing a realistic fiction.
Vocabulary: We will have our Unit two test tomorrow, and then will begin Unit 3.
Reading: Fluency homework #3 should be completed by next Monday. Reading Logs will be due next Monday as well. You can access the form here. Reading Log #2 We continue reading our literature selections in groups.
Social Studies: We have finished reading our first issue of Studies Weekly. We will have our first quiz on Thursday. I will send home a study sheet tomorrow.
Science: We continue learning about living and nonliving components of ecosystems, observing changes in our terrariums.
Thanking you for your continuing support,
Mrs. Mary Dwyer
