Dear Kindergarten Parents,
I hope everyone had a nice weekend! Thanks to all parents who have been able to help for Primary Centers and those who contribute to our class preparing items at home. More service hour opportunities are coming with Jogathon and Spring Fling.
Please send in the white Jogathon envelope — signed granting permission for your child to run for this event on Friday, April 22.
The Speech Contest is April 2o. Kindergarten children are invited to enter this contest. This is not a required assignment for kindergarten. I will be selecting 5 students from our class to compete in this contest. Please choose a poem or Nursery Rhyme that consists of 5 to 10 lines, one prop is allowed. A copy needs to be sent into class, I will keep it to help your child as we practice in class.
Lent is the focus for religion. We are learning it is a time to grow in God’s love. Daily we pray Our Father and talk about forgiveness, saying “I’m sorry” and “I forgive you” as Jesus taught us in this prayer.
This week we will be moving ahead in math and language arts. Chapter 7, adding concepts. The booklet is coming home on Tuesday, please keep at home to read together. Vocabulary for this chapter includes: add, plus sign, equals sign, and sum.
It is time to start a new theme in our reading series. Phonemic awareness review: letter sounds /t/, /k/, and /n/; phonics: short vowel ‘o’ the ‘ot’ and ‘ox’ families; penmanship and writing strategies. March Book-it forms are due this week. This is the end of the six month reading program. I am pleased to see how many students turned in their form every month.
Social Studies and Science lessons will focus on Japan.
This Friday is a full day. We will have a school family activity in the afternoon.
Have a pleasant week.
Mrs. Car0l Brown
