The 6th grade class is wrapping up their study of the amazing Ancient Egyptians. We learned about their daily life, the Nile River, and the gods. Next up we are traveling to Greece!
The 6th grade is finished with their study of Ancient China. We learned about the geography, dynasties, and accomplishments of the ancient Chinese people. To complete our studies the students created Buncees on many different topics and compiled collages with all they learned. Next stop Ancient Egypt!
This week begins our celebration of Catholic school education. The Middle School continues to study the Old Testament, New Testament and Catholic principles. This week’s classes will focus on appreciating our Sacred Heart community!
The sixth grade class finished studying the first civilizations such as Sumer, Assyria and Babylonia. All of these ancient places were in Mesopotamia or the Cradle of Civilization. To show our knowledge they worked in groups and created dioramas of the farms or ziggaruts. The projects came out looking great.
The sixth grade class is studying the ancient Sumerian culture. Part of their culture included worshiping gods and fearing demons. They built complicated structures to worship their deities called ziggurats. In the computer lab today they designed ziggurats on a sketch website. They are great artists!
The 6th grade is studying Genesis in the Old Testament and the creation stories. To celebrate God’s beautiful work the students wrote a prayer thanking God for many different aspects of creation. We will begin moving on to main characters in the Old Testament as we read the bible and our religion book.
Today October 2, 2018 is the memorial of the Holy Guardian Angels. We discussed in middle school today how wonderful it is to have guardian angels in our life. The 6th grade continues their study of ancient peoples by examining cave art left behind. We are learning about how they hunted and lived from these ancient paintings. During art class yesterday the students drew pictures that tell a story on sandpaper. The drawings are quite interesting and well done.
Today the United States celebrates the founding of our Republic with Constitution Day. On September 17, 1787 the founding fathers signed the Constitution that established our form of a Republic government. A happy day indeed!
The 6th and 7th grade went to the Skirball Center this week to experience an archaeology dig. Students worked in sand pits and brainstormed about the items they found from an ancient city.
