The 7th grade class is learning all about the class structure, warriors, religion and hard work of the Aztecs. We created Aztec shields with designs that reflect the Aztec culture. First the Mayans, then the Aztecs and next we will travel to Peru to find out about the Inca’s!

The 7th grade begins the study of Mesoamerica cultures. The first culture we are learning about is the powerful Mayans. The class took notes on the geography and animals in Guatemala and Mexico. Next we will examine their traditions, sports, and advances in science and math.

The middle school grades brought Stations of the Cross booklets up to church and reflected on each station. The 7th grade class completed a project where they created their own civilization. They wrote about the geography, economy, housing, dress, recreation, and author choice for their unique culture. Each page is also illustrated and they designed a cover and flag. Every one is exciting, creative, and would be a great destination for a trip!
The 7th grade is currently studying several dynasties from China. These include the Yuan, Song, and Ming time periods. Their art focused on nature and many landscape designs. The students sketched and colored or painted their own interpretation of a Chinese landscape. We are also drawing priceless Ming vases!

As we continue our study of Japan one of the 7th grade students taught the class how to make an origami stingray. The art of origami consists of very precise folds and the class followed the directions very well. We also discussed how much nature influenced Japan throughout all their art and religion.
The 7th grade continues their study of Ancient Japan with notes on each section of the social pyramid. The many unique hairstyles were drawn next to the notes on the samurai, peasants, merchants, and craftsmen. Next we will look at the Shoguns and how their rule ended.
