Theodor Geisel, born in 1904, is best known for writing children’s books and his work as a cartoonist. We know him best by his pen name – Dr. Seuss. You have probably read one, if not more, of his books or seen his books as cartoons or movie adaptations. Some of his popular works are Green Eggs and Ham, The Cat in the Hat, and How the Grinch Stole Christmas. While these books may seem silly, Dr. Seuss wrote in rhyme to help revitalize children’s interest in reading and to remind us that learning can be fun.

In honor of his birthday and to kick off Read Across America, our 8th graders read Dr. Seuss books to our classes. They hope that reading Dr. Seuss books has inspired students to find a cozy spot to read their favorite books and learn a thing or two.

“The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go.” – Dr. Seuss
