Dear Kindergarten Families,
Wednesday begins the season of Lent. If your schedule permits, please join us at Mass Wednesday morning at 8:30.
We will review our religion text lesson from last week Hands are Good. This lesson leads us to Lent: growing in love for Jesus and caring for others, giving and helping others during Lent. The next 40 days will be preparing for Lent through prayer, discussion, craft, and reading the Children’s Bible.
Read Across America and celebrating Dr. Seuss’ birthday on Thursday. Friday celebrating reading with some fun activities!!
Spelling and sorting word families has been our phonics practice for the last few weeks. Knowing our beginning/ending consonant sounds and all vowel sounds helps us to be successful readers. Segmenting CVC words and blending the sounds to read words has been the primary focus in our reading groups, to encourage and further our reading success. The Reading Workshop skills and strategies are reinforced during centers. Spelling sight words helps us to write sentences in our Writing Workshop – please spend a couple of minutes when you read together and help your child verbally spell their sight words.
Math finds us working on addition to 10; starting this week addition to 20, and writing number sentences to find sum. Using the 110 graph to identify double and triple digit numbers. Plane and solid shapes, measuring with non-standard units as well as skip counting practice will continue this week.
Science has us returning to our five senses reviewing the Scientific method. We will also continue on with what animals do in the winter.
Social studies has working with maps, distance and direction.
Friday is a full day of school.
The second trimester ends Friday. Which means Progress reports come home on Tuesday, March 14. I will be sending out the Service Hour calendar in the next day or so.
Look for the March service hour calendar in your email tomorrow or Wednesday.
Blessings to all families,
Mrs. Carol Brown
