A SNEAK PEEK AT OUR ACADEMICS
Language Arts:
Reading: We continue working on reading and learning through nonficition books. It is amazing to see the students transfer their new knoweldge into writing during our writer’s workshop. Here are a few things we continue to learn this week:
- Stop and study each page because tudying one page in a book can teach so much
- Guess what might come next. For example, I be the next page will tell about…
- Reader’s learn more by chatting about what’s happening (our favorite activity to do in class is turn and tell your partner)
- Remembering the information they learned is important. Practice telling someone what you have learned about your topic at home.
Writing: We will be adding new topics to our writing this week. I wonder what they will teach each other next?
Math: New Unit! We are on unit 5. Please take some time to look over the newsletter I sent home yesterday regarding our new math unit. We will be using ten blocks to make numbers, learn about greater than, less than, and equal to… I’ve started giving them timed test on math facts of addition 0 and 1. Next week, we will do the 2’s. I will also do the subtraction timed test of 0 and 1’s. They get about 2 minutes for 25 problems.
Social Studies: New Unit! My World Near and Far Vocabulary: World, globe, continent, language.
Science: East and West….Which direction does the sun rise and set?
