Dear Parents,             October 21, 2013

This week, we begin Theme 3! Our reading strategy is “evaluate”.  After reading a story, we think back on what we read and learned to decide if we like or dislike the story and why. The comprehension skill that will help us with this reading strategy is defining topic, main idea, and details within our stories. Once we can define these, we can use them to help us evaluate the story.  Our phonics focus this week is double final consonants (pull, stuff, mass etc.), review of the short sound of /a/ and plurals with –s. Our grammar focus continues to be what makes a sentence a sentence.  This week, our spelling words are from unit 16 – double final consonants.

In math we will focus on counting on through money. There will be no math homework on Monday but we will have homework throughout the rest of the week.

In religion, we are focusing on how to pray to God our Father. In addition, we will spend time getting ready for the Saints Parade on November 1st!

In science we are continuing our study of animals through learning about their body parts. This week we will look at teeth!

In social studies we are learning how to read a timeline and the choices families make.

Reminders for the week:

  • Last day to buy donuts is on Monday!
  • Please remind your child to bring their library book to school Tuesday so that they may check out a new one.
  • It is All About…Sheridan! Congratulations!
  • Friday is a full day!

If you have any questions or concerns, please let me know.  Have a wonderful week!

Ms. Manning
