Dear Parents,                                                     October 28, 2013

This week, our reading strategy is “predict/infer”.  Before reading a story, we look at the cover, the title and the pictures and make educated guesses (or predictions) on what the story will be about.  While reading, we use information learned to conclude (or infer) if our prediction is correct or what will happen next.  The comprehension skill that will help us with this reading strategy is predicting.  Our phonics focus this week is a review of the short sound of /i/ and verb endings –s, -ed, and –ing.  We will also focus on possessive -’s.  Our grammar focus continues to be what makes a sentence a sentence.  This week, our spelling words are from unit 10 – a short vowel review.

We are near the end of our Unit 3 in Everyday Math, which means there will be a math assessment this week! Yay!

Science also finds us wrapping up our chapter with a test early on in the week. Social Studies has us reviewing and practicing the concepts we have already learned.

In religion we will spend our time focusing on the Saints Parade. Please practice the Saint Report page in the Red Homework Folder with your student. Everyone will need to have this page memorized for Tuesday, as it will be our first practice in the Church for the Saints Parade! In addition, students are to arrive to school on Friday in their saint’s attire for the parade.

Reminders for the week:

  • Please remind your child to bring their library book to school on Tuesday so that they may check out a new one.
  • Thursday is Halloween and a free dress day! (no $1 required) Students are not to wear Halloween costumes but may wear Halloween themed items!
  • Halloween Tattoos will be sold for $1.
  • Friday is the Saints Parade and a half-day as the teachers have a staff meeting in the afternoon.
  • It’s All About…. Diego G! Congratulations!

If you have any questions or concerns, please let me know.  Have a wonderful week!

~Ms. Manning
