Dear Parents,                  February 18, 2014

I hope you all had an enjoyable three-day weekend!

Our reading strategy this week is predict/infer and the comprehension skill that will help with that strategy is predicting.  Taking time to look through what we are going to read, to look at titles or pictures and predict what the story will be about can help us understand the story better.  Stop while reading, predict what a character might do or what events might take place – see if you can infer what will happen next or what is most likely to happen.  Our phonics focus is the long /a/ sound spelled with the vowel pairs ai or ay, as in sail or day.  Our spelling words this week are from unit 27.  Our grammar focus is on naming words for one or more than one.

Math this week, finds us continuing our practice in comparing numbers, especially within number stories.

In religion we will be completing our Virtus lessons.

We are continuing our unit in science on different environments as we work to complete some projects for our school fair coming up!

In social studies this week we will take some time to work for our Social Studies Weekly and present our transportation projects we recently made.
