Dear Parents,                     November 3, 2014

This week in first grade, we are learning…

Language Arts: We will be taking our theme assessments for Theme 3 this week. We will also spend some time in review of all that we have learned thus far in first grade!

Spelling: As we are in a review week, there are no new spelling words! Please take this week to have your child review the units we have discussed through activities on spellingcity.com!

Math: We are beginning Unit 4: Measurement and Basic Facts. This week we will be learning how to read a thermometer (which will strengthen our counting by 2s) and measuring items with nonstandard and standard units!

Religion: We did not get a chance to begin memorizing our sentences for our Saints Parade last week. Therefore, we will need a lot of practice at home! Tomorrow your child will bring home a worksheet with all of the sentences they must memorize by Friday! Again, as a reminder, your child will need a costume for the parade. If you are having trouble finding something, I recommend looking at a Halloween store for a basic tunic/dress. Please have your child come to school in his/her costume!

Science: In science we will begin our new chapter: Living Things Meet Their Needs. We will begin by discussing Lesson 1: What is an Environment?

Social Studies: We will continue with Unit 2: At Home With My Family. This week we will discuss families long ago, have an introduction to our Readers Theatre Thanksgiving Play, and take our test towards the end of the week.

Homework for the Week:

  • Monday: Math Worksheet & Practice Saint Report
  • Tuesday: Math Worksheet & Practice Saint Report
  • Wednesday: IXL.com Skill N.2 & Practice Saint Report
  • Thursday: Math Worksheet (Double-sided) & Practice Saint Report
  • Friday: Read 2 times!

Reminders for the Week:

  • Please remind your child to bring their library book to school Tuesday so that they may check out a new one.
  • PE Uniforms on Tuesday and Thursday!
  • Friday is a noon dismissal and our Saints Parade at 8:30am in the Church.

If you have any questions or concerns, please let me know.  Have a fantastic week!

Ms. Manning
