Dear Parents, October 24, 2016
Here’s what we are learning in first grade this week!
Language Arts: In Readers Workshop we are continuing to find ways to check our reading for mistakes and how to determine difficult words. In Writers Workshop we are beginning our revisions with a writing partner – we will be having a publishing party in November to celebrate all of our hard work! In addition, we will also be focusing on specific phonetic skills. This week, we will be focusing on possessives (adding ‘s to the ends of peoples names to show ownership) and verb endings (-s, -ed, -ing). Our spelling words will be review of our short vowel sounds and will come from Unit 10 in our books.
Math: We are continuing with Unit 3! We will be focusing on one big lesson this week: Frames and Arrows Routine! Please see the math worksheet on Tuesday for an adult lesson in frames and arrows! 😉
Science: We are finishing our nocturnal animal book with owls on Monday!
Social Studies: We are working on making choices. We will discuss the differences between wants and needs..
