Hello Families!
We are back into the swing of our first-grade schedule! They did wonderful yesterday on their first day back. Our room is decorated with Christmas decorations. There is nothing like my first graders to notice all we do to make their room special! We received our first gingerbread mail yesterday from Florida! Our United States map is up and ready to greet our gingerbread from around the country. We will be shipping ours off on Wednesday! They are adorable peeking out of their envelopes! The students worked hard to think of just the right note to write together to send along with their handmade gingerbread person. Yesterday, we had a gingerbread fashion show, and everyone showed off the ones they had made.
In reading, we will be learning about two letters that are together and make new sounds like ch, wh, qu, and kn. These are called digraphs and once we know these and continue to remember our blends we become even more proficient readers. A reminder to keep reading together at home! This support from home helps them grow in reading so much!
In math, we will be reviewing concepts we were working on before Thanksgiving Break: addition and subtraction to 10, and our base-ten number values.
In religion, we will learn about Advent and the birth of Jesus. In the “Homework” folder there will be a special Advent calendar for children and their families!

Please let me know if your student will be singing in our evening Christmas show on December 11th. Thank you!
