Hello First Grade Families!
This week is a big week in first grade! We are part of a school-wide door decorating contest for Valentine’s Day put on by the 8th graders. We have Ash Wednesday and Valentine’s Day all on the same day. We will go to church in the morning and hand out Valentines in the afternoon.
In religion, we will continue to learn about Lent and how we prepare ourselves for Easter.  The 8th graders came and did a Lent activity with their groups last Friday. They did a super job explaining: prayer, almsgiving, and fasting. First grade drew and wrote the ways they could do each.
In literature, we are beginning to learn about fables from around the world. They also continutes to enjoy workin on their fairy tale rough drafts. This week, they worked in small groups to talk together about what stories they were writing.
In math, we celebrated big for 100 days of school! Creating our hats, doing crafts, and sharing our 100 collected items. This week we will be looking at fractions in math and reviewing past concepts. A big part of first grade is returning to touch base on things we have already covered earlier in the year.
In grammar, we will be focusing on contractions in our reading passages and writing them. We will also continue with our rough drafts of our fairy tales during writing time.

It will be a fun and busy week!
