Dear Parents, April 23, 2018
Here’s what we are doing in first grade…
Congratulations to our poetry finalists: Leila, Sofia, Roman, Alex, and Khloe! We wish you luck in the finals!
Language Arts: As we continue our opinion writing this week! We are also working on our vowel pairs /oi/, /oy/, /au/, and /aw/. The /oi/ and /oy/ make the sounds heard in boil and toy. The /au/ and /aw/ make the sounds heard in sauce and saw. We are also working on our suffixes -ful, -ly, and -y. Our new spelling words do not come from our spelling book this week but are practicing our vowel pairs.
Math: We are continuing Unit 9. We will be learning about adding and subtracting two digit numbers as well as work on fractions.
Science: We will wrap up our chapter on seasons. We will be taking our test by the end of the week.
Social Studies: We will continue our chapter on the land as we discuss how people change the land and an example of a factory.
Religion: We will read about how Jesus is with us in the church. We will also begin preparation for our May Crowning held on May 9th at 2pm in the Church. All students will have a part in our May Crowning. Please help your child practice their lines so they will feel comfortable speaking into the microphone during this special event.
