NOTE FROM MRS. VAZQUEZ:

YIPPEE! It is the week of our field trip. The kids and I are super excited about our pumpkin centered field trip in Santa Paula. We will be taking a hayride and learning about the pumpkin life cycle. Please be sure to send a hat and apply sunscreen before coming to school. We will return to school right before lunchtime so no need to cancel Hot Lunch.

A SNEAK PEEK AT OUR ACADEMICS

Language Arts:

Phonics: We are studying sight words! Have your child teach you our sight word game. A student places their sight word on their forehead and their friend gives them clues to try to guess their word. (Clues: How many vowels? It begins like in the word…  It rhymes with…  It can complete this sentence: I am going to (see) you tomorrow. )

Grammar: We are looking for Mrs. Vazquez’s mistakes this week. I give them a few sentences to correct the following:

  • A sentence begins with a capital letter.
  • A sentence needs to be stopped with a period, exclamation or question mark.
  • There are spaces between words.

Reading: We have worked on Building Good Reading Habits.

  • Sneak Peek
  • Check your Sneak Peek
  • Do Something at the end (talk about your favorite part, retell, reread)
  • Read more and more and keep track
  • Set Goals (On Wednesday, we will set a goal of how many books will be read during independent reading)
  • Scoop up words in phrases (We actually have a plastic spoon in our reading bags to remind us to read in bigger scoops).

Math: We are counting nickels and pennies combined. Review the value of coins and counting mixed coins. We continue to skip count by 2’s. Our goal is to be able to skip count to 120 by the end of the year. 🙂 We are reviewing adding and subtracting. They will get a quick 2 minute assessement this week with mixed addition and subtraciton.

Religion: We will be going over our SLE’s in class. Please look in your child’s homework folder.

Primary Centers: Thank you to the parents and grandparent who volunteered at our Primary Centers.
