NOTE FROM MRS. VAZQUEZ:

Hello, Parents!

Thank you all for the beautiful flowers, cards, and birthday wishes! This week we have a few fun things planned such as Ms. Spooner Art, Free Dress, and our first Primary Center of the school year!

HOMEWORK

Homework should take 20-25 minutes daily. Please include the minutes used for fluency and practicing sight words as part of your reading log. Homework should not be turned in before Tuesday unless noted in the worksheet.

Reading Log: Please read daily.

FLUENCY: Fluency homework started last week. If you have any questions regarding fluency, please be sure to send me an email.

Math IXL: A.3, C.1, N.1

Spelling: Study for spelling test on Friday. We had such a great turn out for our Back to School Part 2 last Wednesday. It was all about spelling sorts. If you did not get a chance to make it, I sent home a neon orange letter in your child’s homework folder. Please look over it and if you have any quetisons please send me an email.

Parent Homework: Please make sure to initial planner. Always check their homework folder for any information being sent home. I will be sending home their classwork folder tomorrow. You will find a math test and spelling test in their claswork folder along with some work we completed in class.

A SNEAK PEEK AT OUR ACADEMICS

Language Arts:

Phonics: We continue finding blends/digraphs in everything we read in class. I hope they continue finding them at home as they read.

Grammar: What do we see in a sentence? Take a look at their spelling test from last week. The bottom should have three sentences that were dictated to them after their spelling test. This section is to show how they are making progress in learning how to write a sentence. I am looking for the following three things including spelling their sight words correctly.

  • A sentence begins with a capital letter.
  • A sentence needs to be stopped with a period, exclamation or question mark.
  • There are spaces between words.

Reading: We have worked on Building Good Reading Habits.

  • Sneak Peek
  • Check your Sneak Peek
  • Do Something at the end (talk about your favorite part, retell, reread)
  • Read more and more and keep track
  • Set Goals (On Wednesday, we will set a goal of how many books will be read during independent reading)
  • Scoop up words in phrases (We actually have a plastic spoon in our reading bags to remind us to read in bigger scoops).

Math: We are working on telling the time to the hour. If your child knows the time to the hour, you can work on the half-hour and to the minute. We are also learning to show 10 cents with the most coins and the least amount of coins.

Religion: We will be going over our SLE’s in class. Please look in your child’s classwork folder to see our SLE’s.

Primary Centers: Friday is our big day! We will have primary centers from 10:00-12:00. Please let me know if you are able to come help in our classroom.
