A SNEAK PEEK AT OUR ACADEMICS

Language Arts

Grammar/Writing: Last week, we revisited our first small moment writing and wrote a new small moment. Students were able to look at their growth. This week we will continue looking at our writing and making changes (editing).

Reading/Phonics: We were definitely ready last week for Mission #5 ( What makes a good reading partner? ) and we received our detective badges. I will allow them to take them home as soon as we finish our unit in two weeks. We are using our badges daily because it keeps us focused on using ALL our reading skills (missions) during reading and writing. We have learned a few games in the last week such as Guess the Covered Word and I SPY with our word wall words. I will send home a copy of the Guess the Covered Word in their homework folder on Wednesday. This game is best played when your child is reading a new book or your child likes to guess at a word instead of trying to sound it out and check if it makes sense.

Math: We begin a new unit on Wednesday. We continue to review adding and subtracting using a number line along with a few 2 minute timed tests. Please look in your child’s classwork folder to see their progress.

Religion: We began writing to God in a letter format.

Social Studies: We are learning to make maps.

Art: Ms. Spooner will visit today.
