Homework

REMINDER: Homework is due by Tuesday morning/evening. Please be sure to click the green checkmark to turn it in.

  • Reading Log: Read 20 min. a day (at least 5 times a week)
  • Practice new word sort. Go over word patterns with your child. (Test will be on Monday). A reminder that test day may change due to extra time needed to review sort.
  • Fluency: I have sent all students their new fluency packets today. Please look in their binder. Fluency should be done at least 4 times a week. This helps tremendously with fluency and sight words.
  • Math IXL: C3 and C.4
  • Language IXL: G.3 and L.1
  • Don’t forget to practice those sight words. I will be testing at the beginning of March.

Sneak Peek To Our Academic Week

MATH:  We began our new unit this week. We will focus on base ten blocks and counting them. Example: 4 tens and 4 ones equal 44 or 5 tens and 14 ones equal 64. Practice at home with their base ten blocks.

Vocabulary: Greater than, less than, and equal to… (<,>,=)

READING/PHONICS:  We began our new unit this week, Word Detectives. We are receiving missions from the SSDA (Super Secret Detective Agency). Our missions all have to do with reading skills. We receive a mission and practice it during our reading time.

*Mission #1: Notice a problem so we stop to solve it

*Mission #2: Look at the WHOLE word closely with a magnify glass. Pay close attention to endings such as shop vs shops (ing/ed/er).

Our additional missions were last week and yesterday!

*Mission #3 Use Everything you know about reading

*Mission #4: Do A S….LLL….OOOOO…..WWWW check!

*Mission #5: Reading partners help each other… Reminding friends different strategies to choose while reading.

Shhhhh!Top-secret. (don’t tell the kiddos): We are close to receiving our badges… I will do my very best to remember to record our Detective Promise. Please do not tell the kids since it’s a surprise. I will let them take their badges home to show you but they need to return them the next day. We use them throughout the unit. Again, don’t tell the kids.

Our phonics unit will focus on being word detectives even with isolated words (sight words) not just reading.

Dr. Seuss’s birthday is today. We will celebrate Read Across America in our class by reading lots of books with new characters. This week we will read the following:

Iris and Walter

Poppleton

Nate the Great

Little Bear

Writing: We are working on grammar during our time off from writing. We are learning about persuasive writing and will get down to doing lots of writing next week.

SPELLING/WORD SORT:  Look in their planner for the spelling words. Spelling test on Tuesday.  Have them say it and lay it for you.  We will begin using Kids A-Z (mvazquez113) to practice spelling words since spelling city has merged with Learning A-Z. The app is not remembering their password so students have to type it each time they use Kids A-Z for reading and vocabulary. Vocabulary A-Z is just an extra way of practicing spelling words.

RELIGION: Lent Vocabulary: Fasting, Prayer, Almsgiving / Virtus Lessons We will begin writing our own prayers in our journal. We have been reading about Jesus’ miracles.

SCIENCE: We are examining what parts an animal uses to feed itself. Our focus will be on bird beaks.

REMINDERS:

Please make sure you look at our school website for any school activities or assemblies.

*Friday, March 5th: 11:45 dismissal and MORNING PRAYER at 11:00 (Zoomies will be dismissed after the prayer service).

I ask to please check your child’s P.E. lightweight jackets to see if your child accidentally took Sebastian’s jacket. His name would be on the inside on a label. Thank you.

Please send me an email with an emoji or say hello so I can add a sparkler to the bucket. 🙂

If you have any questions, please send me an email.
