First Grade Families-

Progress Reports went home today. Please check your family envelope for the report and also for your future conference day in January.

Weekly Homework

Homework due EVERY Tuesday

Reading Challenge: This week we have the comprehension bingo. After reading a book, have your child choose one response square from their comprehension bingo board. Have your child respond to the comprehension prompt verbally, or you may choose to have them record their answer on a piece of paper. Please have your child color the square that was completed. When your child has four squares in a horizontal row, they have a BINGO! Please color in the boxes you have completed.

Math IXL A.20 and G.2

Fluency Homework: No fluency this week since I will be making adjustments to their levels after our reading assessments. We will resume fluency the week of January 10th.

Word Work: We all have the same sort as last week. I feel the students will be ready for their test on Monday. We will not have a new sort next week due to some fun academic activities during our word work time.

Sneak Peek to our Academic Week

Word Work: Playing games while practicing word patterns.

Reading/Phonics:

Word Detectives has been the highlight in our class. A few things we will learn in the next few days:

*Word Detectives (WD) notice tough words as they read and stop to solve these words right away.

*Looking closely at words to get clues, making sure they look across the WHOLE word to solve it.

*WD use all they know to solve problems.

*WD do a S-L-O-W check

*What do good partners do? Students will work with partners while reading.

During our guided reading groups, students are learning to compare and contrast using a Venn Diagram. They are also learning to discuss the author’s purpose for writing the book (make us laugh, teach us new information, teaching us a lesson). It is so great to hear the discussions happening during reading groups.

Writing/Grammar: We will work on adding to our writing. We will also work on identifying nouns and verbs.

Math:  We are working on using a 120-number grid…more or less…ten more and ten less. We are working on subtraction.

Religion:   We are focusing on our second week of Advent, PEACE! We have been working on finding peace to speak to God. We have also worked on finding peace in our actions.

Art: We made Santa this week.  Next week, we will be making a snowman!
